“When the Aztecs were conquered by the Spanish it is said that there was a lot of shock and surprise at how well the Aztecs flourished in their abundance of supplies as well as the sheer amount of people that lived in these cities. Cortez and Diaz also noted that the view from the Aztec temple they were able to see how well the Aztecs were able to use water to their advantage. By using canals and bridges they were able to see just how splendid the town was. But after hearing how Cortez and Diaz were treated upon their arrival I feel like this could be a little skewed. I believe that the Aztecs were forced to put on their best displays so that way Cortez and Diaz would not get mad or disappointed. I think that the Spanish and the Aztecs had pretty different cultures from one another. The Spanish were primarily Christians or at least practiced Christianity, whereas the Aztecs believed in sacrifice to many different Gods. The accounts from the Aztecs and the Spanish are also vastly different. The only similarity between the two is talking about how bloody it was. Outside of that the reasoning behind the two groups of people are very different. The Spanish were trying to spread Christianity to other empires in terms of forcing people into the religion. The Aztecs however thought this was a message from their Gods that this was meant to be and was the end of their time.”
