What does it mean to be accountable for your behaviors?
Lets start this course by identifying the image of registered nurses and how that influences accountability and professional practice.
Consider what you think a registered nurse is really. How do you explain the role of the RN when asked? Do you lead the discussion with a list of task?
As we begin our discussion, it is important to share the same definitions related to several concepts; it is also important to reflect on what you think you are really about to embark on as far as this profession.
Before you start reading for this module answer the following questions:
1) What does it mean to be accountable for your behaviors?
2) What are professional behaviors?
3) Should nurses be held accountable for “unprofessional behaviors” on social media?
4) Should potential employers scrutinize social media postings to inform hiring decisions? Att

What is your role in re-creating the image of nursing?
I believed that my responsibility in re-creating the nurse image is to simply treat each person with the utmost respect and kindness. The image has been looked upon as the role of a nurse is not important. As stated, nurse is noted to be assistant to doctors with no discernment (Salem, 2019). I believe that a medical provider, be it a doctor or Nurse Practitioner is only as good as their nurse. As I step into this new role, I will continue to do my best. I want to hear the patient family as well as the patient leave and know she cared and as busy as she was, she took care of me. Some places had the perception that since nursing is a caring duty this was a female duty, but I like to think that the image of nursing is for males or females. In the recreation of the professional nurse, the caring nurse must become a leader amongst fellow nurses. You must do what is right even when other team members are not.
Do uniforms/dress code influence the public’s perception of nurses? How or Why not?
The perception of the public is important because the uniform is a dress code, but as time has passed the uniform has become a requirement among other groups. Many facilities have a certain color that each department will wear so that patients are aware of the different people that are coming in and out of their room. Any uniform is a sign of professionalism and with nursing dress code matters. According to University of Texas dress code is an important because it establish professionalism (Dress Code of Nursing 2022). If I decided to put on a dirty uniform and my coworker puts on a clean one and if a patient was allowed to choose which nurse, they would pick the nurse with clean uniform no matter how big my smile was and how nice I was the vision I gave them is not satisfying to their eyesight. This will play a part in the nurse-patient client relationship.
How does the nursing image impact our ability to sit at the decision-making table?
To have the ability to sit at the table for a decision making we must be professional, and knowledgeable. In the past, nurses have not had a voice in health policy. During the pandemic, so many nurses went above and beyond to take care of patients and that image should have impacted us enough so our voices can be heard. In the wake of Covid 19 the media response was intense but it also shared light on the response that nurses made a difference worldwide (Bennett et al., 2020).
Conclusion
A visual representation of something is an image. My plans are to represent the person I have grown to be loving, caring, considerate, professional, and understanding.
