What is the current state of the policy or issue (is it currently enacted, is it an issue that you think policy change could address)?
This assignment will require developing an understanding of how state or federal policies impact individual survivors of intimate partner violence and their families. The student will write a short (1-2 paragraphs) overview of the policy and it’s potential impact on survivors, and then create an advocacy product (flier, meme, social media post, etc.) that could be used to raise awareness of the link between policy and individual outcomes.
You can review potential policy topics that might be of interest to you here: https://nnedv.org/policy-center/policy-issues/Links to an external site., or review other policies or community level issues covered in this module.
Then write 1-2 paragraphs that answer the following questions:
-What is the current state of the policy or issue (is it currently enacted, is it an issue that you think policy change could address)?
-How does the policy or issue impact survivors and their families?
-What (if any) policy changes should be made to improve survivor and family outcomes?
Then create an advocacy product (a flier, meme, example social media post, etc.) that educates or advocates around the policy or issue. You can see examples of policy issue advocacy in this toolkit: https://assets.speakcdn.com/assets/2497/ncadv_dvam_toolkit_2018.pdfLinks to an external site.
