Purpose: Provides students with the opportunity to use the strategies of writing, rhetoric, and argumentation to demonstrate their mastery of the English 101 course’s learning outcomes.

Instructions: For this assignment, you will build off the same topic that you used in your Persuasive Presentation which is (THE HIGH COST OF PRESCRIPTION DRUGS IN AMERICA). You must write a proposal essay in which you present a solution to the problem that you identified in your Persuasive Presentation. Your purpose in the essay is to persuade your audience to accept your proposed solution.

Must be 1,000-1,200 words in length

Must follow all MLA formatting rules

Must have strong content and be developed thoroughly

Must have an introduction that presents and describes the problem that needs solving

This is what you already did for your Persuasive Presentation. Now, you are using that information as the introduction to your Proposal Essay.

Must state the solution that you are proposing succinctly

Must include specifics that outline how the proposed solution will work

Must include specifics that show how the proposed solution will solve the problem

Must persuade the reader that the proposed solution should be implemented, including presentation and development of reasons to support the proposed solution from an argument of principle, consequence, and/or precedent

Must include a summary and rebuttal of possible opposing views or alternative solutions

Must have a conclusion that asks the audience to act or support your solution in some way

Must have appropriate college-level readability and style

Must have proper college-level mechanics

Must have proper MLA citations
