Greetings everyone,
The article I have selected is “The Impact of Charismatic Leadership on Recruitment, Development and Firm Performance” by Hansen, Miller, and Noack. According to the authors, charismatic leaders are able to stimulate, motivate, inspire, and individualize their followers. These leaders are often able to recruit a large number of highly talented followers to the organization and are usually successful in their quest to develop the talents and skills of their followers. I also learned that charismatic leaders usually boost the performance of the firm in terms of revenue generation and overall reputation. In a study of athletic teams, the authors established that charismatic head coaches often boost external donations to their athletic teams. In addition to that, charismatic head coaches also directly boost the performance of their teams. Therefore, the research finds that firms can utilize the services of charismatic leaders when recruiting, developing, and retaining their human capital. I chose this article because I wanted to understand more about leaders that exhibit charisma because, initially, I only understood them from a political or religious standpoint. From this article, I have learned that charismatic leaders attract the best human capital while improving firm performance. This is consistent what I have been learning from this course that effective leaders usually improve performance as well the efficiency and effectiveness of the firm.
For this week’s discussion I read “Dynamic investment strategies and leadership in product innovation” by Herbert Dawid, Michel Keoula, Michael Kopel, and Peter Kort. Essentially what this article talked about what dynamic leadership when it comes to product development and how to produce new products that keep upward trends.
There were many different management strategies included in the article on how to keep trends forward moving, one of them that caught my eye was “action- reaction” management which in this case meant trying to foresee the outcomes of your product and with that action trying to react to keep things on a manageable timeframe. One of the exerts said “firms rely on a dominant managerial logic, organizational capabilities and cognitive frames, which lead these firms to miss new opportunities sometimes even after investing large sums”( Dawid, Keoula, Kopel, Kort, Dec, 2022) I found this interesting because using these tactics they were able to predict what customers needed or at least try to produce a product that they found was reasonable using certain factors to lead their teams. Most of what I learned from this article was how to try to predict trends within not only your team but also with products that your company may or may not need to implement on the fly to achieve great success with said product. Mostly working in a healthcare field for the majority of my career I found this interesting because in a lot of ways you can pertain these ideas to healthcare as well with the means to how funding needs to go for certain aspects of the company or what costs need to be written off or provided for certain ways to treating patients.
