Discussion: The end of slavery, the rise of Jim Crow, and Black resistance
For this week’s module we are reviewing the “end of legalized slavery”, the enactment of Jim Crow, plus the continuing resilience of the Black/African American population in the U.S.. As such, this week’s post is focused on Jim Crow and how key it was to racial formation in the U.S., how the remnants can still be felt today in our systems of power (federal and state laws, prison, education, finance, real estate) by people of color, and how despite all of this, there was a significant amount of resistance shown by the Black/African American Community.
Please discuss (in your own words) on this post what effects you feel Jim Crow had to racial formation, our systems of power, plus what type of resilience was shown by the Black/African American Community.
