Provision 9 of the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses requires that nurses integrate the principles of social justice into the nursing profession and health policy. This weeks readings provide insight into some of the vulnerable populations that nurses need to be a voice for.
1. Advocating for vulnerable populations should be on the agenda of all professional nursing organizations. Select a professional organization that you belong to and review their policy agendas and report on your findings. (If you do not belong to a professional nursing organization, select one that is of interest to your role or area of specialty).

Social justice extends beyond human health to encompass the well-being of the natural world. Focusing within your state of residence, provide an example of an environmental issue that negatively impacts the determinants of health (SDOH). 2. Locate and summarize a current legislative initiative (local, state, or national) intended to improve the lives of a vulnerable population. Be sure to identify the population of interest and what the bill or policy intends to accomplish.
