Sustainable farming was the research topic that I chose for my Annotated Bibliography. This topic is near and dear to me and what I want to pursue after I retire from the military.
Covid 19 showed just how fragile the current food structure is. In the past food was grown in the yards of every family house. Food that would have been picked and used the same day for dinner. This food was packed will high nutritional values and contained no perseveres. This house holds would have a wide variety of fruits and vegetables to insure that they will always have food throughout the year.
Now society realizes on transportation from one location to another to for food. No longer is food grown and consumed in the local area but now it is grown in one part and then ship across the world for someone to eat. Covid showed once the supply chain slows down due to restrictions then food panics sit in and grocery store shelves become empty with no guarantee of resupply in the future. As cities grow in size so will the distance the food has to go to feed the people in that city.
For sustainable farming to work it requires people along with governments to change their perspective on what, where, and how they believe farming should be done. Food can be grown in a wide variety of styles from the traditional way in the ground out in a field, integrating these fields with animals, vertical growing in a layered system that is housed indoors to maximize space in an urban setting, or even in a hydroponic/aquaponics fashion that does not have any soil/dirt that the plant is growing out of. There are multiple ways that can be considered sustainable farming and could help reduce the need to rely solely on the transportation of food from far-off distances just to feed people. I think as we progress and develop more technology to help solve the world’s problems, we have to ask ourselves what is this going to replace and how will it affect lives.

Worldview is the basic cognitive orientation of an individual or society, including all experiences and viewpoints of an individual or society. A worldview encompasses the individual’s or society’s basic understanding of the world. This can include the individual’s experiences, opinions, feelings, and beliefs. People and societies can even use themes, ethics, existential theories, and foundational postulates as elements of their worldviews. A person’s worldview is the set of beliefs they have about the fundamental aspects of reality that impact everything they see, think, know, and do. People’s worldviews are also referred to as their philosophy, mentality, perspective on life, religion, or belief system.
The Western, experimental, scientific approach is characterized by a focus on empirical evidence, objectivity, and rigorous methods to test hypotheses. Western thought, experimentation with the unknown, and organized scientific research provide explanations for many unexplainable things that also bring comfort to groups and bring individuals and groups together into larger communities, just as religions do like that. Scientific research provides society with standards and understandings similar to religion. Still, one of science’s strengths is the human ability to question the world, understand it, and evaluate our role in it. As for the weakness of the Western worldview of experimental science, I think that view tends to downplay the role of religion, mythology, and magic in our lives. Where science and Western experimentalism view data and facts as individuals and their place in the world, religion tends to consider the emotional or sociological role of a person in society and in the world with other people.
Religion, myths, and magic help to shape people’s view of the world, especially throughout early historical periods up to the middle ages and the Renaissance period. Religion and myths provide standards for beliefs. Magic can give people a sense of control or power over something that seems mystical to them. Practicing religion, relating myths, and performing magic all helped bring groups of people together, provided a socio-economic threat to life, provided information and education, and also set rules and boundaries for society by standardizing what is believed to be right or wrong. These strengths helped explain the unexplainable and helped provide comfort to individuals or groups. People living with religious, mythical, or magical beliefs need to rely on faith or belief systems to understand the world around them. Because these belief systems are fictional, the true forces that influence the world aren’t explained by facts, data, or scientific analysis. Groups accept and understand the world in terms of religious, mythological, or magical interpretations, leaving little room for individuals to intellectualize the physical world.
