In theatre, the theme is a message in the story of the play. There can be many themes throughout a play. In this assignment, you are asked to explore the different themes in “A Raisin in the Sun.”

How You’ll Be Assessed

1. Write a list of different themes you have noticed in the play. List approximately 10 possible messages.

2. Group your list under three topics. What are some unifying elements between the themes? For example, Death could be an overall topic, with the play having a series of messages about the idea of death.

3. Pick one of the themes you have written down and write a short paragraph (200 words) explaining what the message is and how you know it’s a message. Use evidence from the play.

4. Turn in all three parts.
