Recent studies demonstrate that CBT intervention approaches are useful for women who may have
been diagnosed with major depressive disorder or have experienced a major depressive episode in
various settings (Abamara et al., 2022; DeRubeis, et al., 2019). For example, in a post-antenatal clinic
in Nigeria, modified CBT techniques were used to suit the cultural context, from which findings showed
that CBT was effective. However, Meseron therapy, was revealed to be more effective in regard to the
sample under study which consisted of mothers experiencing postnatal depression (Abamara et al.,
2022). In a clinical randomized trials, which included 171 females with major depressive disorder,
findings demonstrated that when CBT was used without monotherapy (prescribed antidepressants),
there was a preventative influence on depressive relapse (DeRubeis, et al., 2019).
