This article is to investigate the implications of self-referencing as well as the effect that self-referencing has on social cognition. Dr. Furr conducts a literature review on the topic of the self-reference effect, which refers to the phenomenon of improved memory encoding and retrieval when the subject matter in question refers to itself. He develops a theoretical model in which he proposes that self-referenced materials are processed more strongly than non-self-referenced materials, and that this stronger processing is mediated by self-labeling, self-schema, and self-concept. This model also proposes that non-self-referenced materials are processed more strongly than self-referenced materials. Dr. Furr then discusses the implications of the self-reference effect for social cognition, including the potential for self-referencing to influence the evaluation of stimuli with different emotional valence, to increase self-positivity, and to lead to greater memory encoding and retrieval for self-referenced stimuli. Specifically, Dr. Furr focuses on the potential for self-referencing to influence the evaluation of stimuli with different emotional valence.
The findings of this article indicate that self-referencing plays an important role in social cognition and provide insights into how self-referencing can influence the evaluation and encoding of stimuli. Additionally, the findings suggest that self-referencing plays an important role in social cognition. This article makes a significant contribution to the existing body of research by presenting a comprehensive review of the self-reference effect and a theoretical model that proposes how self-referencing can influence a person’s social cognition.
Question 8
Use the FIU library to find a reference to a book that covers the same topic (or a closely related one) as the article you find in question six. In Canvas, give me this reference in (APA format) (again, you can ignore spacing issues if Canvas doesn’t allow for perfect (APA) spacing, but all other (APA style) elements should be present). Make sure you have a publisher for the book, which is indicative of book references.
Question 9
Tell me if FIU owns the title you found in question eight (yes or no). That is, does FIU own a copy of the book? Tell me in Canvas
Question 10
If FIU does own the title, give me its call number or the ISBN (for an electronic book). If FIU does not own the title, tell me how you would go about getting your hands on the book to borrow using your student resources. Give me your responses in Canvas. Note that books will rarely be in pdf format!
