Title: Checking a Patient’s Vital Signs

Intended audience: Prospective employers

Goals/Objectives: To demonstrate the accurate ways to check a patient’s vital signs.

After identifying the goal or objective of the video you can begin developing your narration. Do not worry about music, speaking parts, images, or video footage for now. Concentrate on putting the demonstration or explanation into words. In the box below, write a half to one-page narration. Keep in mind that the intended audience is prospective employers. You may need to revise this narrative to adequately demonstrate or explain the chosen topic. When you read the narration out loud it should be 2-4 minutes in duration. When you are satisfied with the narration should you begin storyboarding the movie in the squares below.

Now that you have written the narration you can create your storyboard or outline for the video.

Enter the title of the video in the Title box.
Break the narration down into “scenes”; smaller chunks of a few sentences. Copy each chunk and paste it into the Scene Narration box below.
For the Media/Scene Description section, state if a photo or video will accompany the particular narration and describe it. For a video scene you should also list anything in particular that needs to be included in the scene. If you are not including any still pictures, the storyboard will need to have a minimum of three narration scene boxes filled out, in addition to the title and credits; introduction or opening scene, body or main content scene(s) and closing scene. All of the scenes may be in the same setting but the narration needs to be divided up in the form below.
In the Media Selection Rationale section, describe what message you want the scene to convey. Do you want it to evoke a particular feeling in the viewer? For example, is the image or scene supposed to depict something or set a particular mood? Why is this mood necessary for your story? Does it set up future narration or media depictions?
State how much time you expect the chunk of narration to take in the Estimated Timing box. (This is approximately how long it will take you to read the narration for the particular scene.)
Make additional copies of a scene block to complete your story if necessary.
Enter the Credits in the very last box. This is where you will cite the sources if necessary and list anyone who assists in the creation of your video. List yourself as the “creator”, “director” or whatever title you would like.
