The patient is 25 years old who is generally healthy, with no drug allergies but was ordered an albuterol inhaler to use as needed for exercise induced asthma. She reports she has had to use her inhaler at least once or twice a day due to severe shortness of breath. She went to the emergency room 2 weeks ago and was started on Serevent 2 puffs twice a day and the physician discontinued the albuterol inhaler and was told to consult her regular physician. She thought it was getting better but she reveals that she has had to sneak a few puffs of her albuterol inhaler that the doctor discontinued. She appears healthy, however she states she is tired, has a tickly cough and recently went to the pharmacy to get some eye drops. She does not have a fever and her vitals are WNL. Evaluate this patient’s scenario and develop a plan of care for this patient using applicable standards of therapy. Note that there can be several acceptable plans for this patient.
