Progressing from last week’s information: Carole Laurin is progressing well in some areas of her recovery. She is now walking with assistance and she can feed herself. However, Carole Laurin is still having difficulty speaking and communicating her needs. She has been prescribed a number of new medications she is unfamiliar with. It is also apparent that Carole Laurin has ongoing pain that doesn’t seem to improve without medication. Carole Laurin no longer wants to take analgesics and has requested (via her husband) that a new treatment be found in order for her to become painfree.
As the team is preparing her for discharge it becomes apparent that Carole Laurin will need additional equipment, including a wheelchair. She is worried that she cannot afford to pay for the things she will need to be independent at home. Carole is becoming more anxious about her care and what she can expect for the rest of her life when she goes home.
