According to Marieb, Mitchell, and Smith (2013):
The overall function of the lymphatic system is twofold:
It transports tissue fluid (lymph) to the blood vessels, and
It protects the body by removing foreign material such as bacteria from the lymphatic stream and by serving as a site for lymphocyte policing? of body fluids and lymphocyte multiplication. (p. 525)
The learning objective for Week 4 in the laboratory course is to identify the features of the circulatory system including the blood and lymphatic vessels that transport fluids and substances including hormones, blood, and nutrients. We will look at the histology and anatomy of the vessels through the models and microscopic slides seen in your Laboratory Manual.
To successfully complete this assignment, first read the following exercises from the Laboratory Manual: Exercise 32: Anatomy of Blood Vessels and Exercise 35A: The Lymphatic System and Immune Response.
