Overall, big data as part of a clinical system can benefit research, delivery, organization, economics, and accuracy. 

Though there are many benefits to big data in a clinical system, there are also challenges when being used. Since its referred to as ‘big data’ it can create too much data. The information taken may not be data that is useful to a facility. Thew mentions it is the quality of data instead of quantity and there are always limitations to data analytics (2016).There also poses disadvantages in the standpoint of staffing of IT and nursing informatics as there is more technology bugs, data collection, and privacy threats. Altogether, some challenges will need to be addressed when dealing with big data.

As storing and exchanging patient data can be useful in giving optimal care, privacy concerns have and can arise at facilities. The act of collection and electronical information increases a patients vulnerability to those who may not be directly in charge of their care. One study weighed the pros and cons of big data operations. The study explained that certain privacy concerns need to be addressed in terms of standardization of collection and governmental regulations (Pastorino et al.,2019). Since vast databases are being used everyday, it is important we create a strategy to also protect the careful information of patients.
