Overcoming Difficulties

Instructions :

The exam gives you a CHOICE to answer two (2) essay questions out of three provided.  Each essay should be approximately 1000 words (800-1200 is fine).  You can write your answers in this document, or in a separate Word document, whichever you prefer.  

Remember to give specific examples from the textbook, other course readings, and films to show that you have read and understood course materials.  Since this is a take-home exam, please take extra care to write IN  WORDS.  You must NOT copy wording from the course material – unless you are providing a specific, correctly-cited quote, in quotation marks.

Please avoid overlap between the two questions – i.e. you should give different examples for each essay question.

Two Very Important Reminders

Read the questions carefully!  Read them at least three times, and check back as you are writing to make sure you are directly answering the question.  Not answering the question is the most common mistake students make.

Before you begin writing, create an outline for how you plan to answer the question.  This will result in a much more organized, thoughtful response.

Question 1: Overcoming Difficulties

What was one topic that came up in this course that you found difficult to understand?  How would you now explain this topic to someone else who was struggling to understand it?  In your response, make sure to use at least three specific examples from course materials. 

OR

Question 2: Other Chapters

Choose one chapter from the textbook that was NOT assigned.  After reading the chapter, what did you learn?  Reflecting on at least two other specific examples from the course materials, how does this chapter enhance or challenge what you have already learned in the course?  

OR

Question 3: Memorable

As time goes by, you will likely forget much of what you learned in university. However, some of what you learn may stay with you for the rest of your life.  In 10 years time, what do you think will stay with you from this course?  Choose  one topic from this course that you think will be most memorable. What did you learn about this topic, and why do you think this particular topic will stay with you?  In your answer, make sure you to use at least three specific examples from course materials.
