Over the past 10 years we have seen the micro transaction go from being on mobile games to an industry wide thing. We have also seen a rise in pay to win in many competitive games which also increase the use of micro transactions. We are also seeing are increase of content of games being locked behind DLC making their purchase necessary to get the whole experience of a game. We are also seeing a rise of games being released unfinished and eventually fixed overtime. A few recent examples being Pokemon Scarlet and Violet and Cyberpunk 2077 both games that were released without being done. This is a concerning pattern that we are seeing more and more often with the worse being all 3 of these things being true about a game. However this isn’t a set trend yet. We are also seeing the opposite with less micro transactions and most games releasing with no major issues. However only time will tell which path the industry will follow and over all the future might not be as bleak as it appears to be.
