In this week’s discussion, we must reflect on what we learned these last two months and evaluate our education goals. 

Softskills are essential to utilize as an Information Technology practitioner. Softskills will help in any professional career by using communication, team building, and conflict resolution.

I am working towards a Bachelor of Science in Computer Technology with a concentration in Cloud Computing.

When I first decided to attend college, I wanted to be a Nurse. After I shipped out to Marine Corps and took my Data Systems Administrator course, I decided to pursue a major in Computer Technology.

By pursuing my degree in Computer Technology, I aim to understand better my MOS (job in the Marine Corps). Since my job as a Data System Administrator, I have worked with virtualization and software development. Taking classes as a Computer Technology student will help develop my own knowledge, and having a degree behind my experience in the Marine Corps will help with securing a job after I get out.

After this class, I will have three more General Education classes before starting my Degree Concentration classes. I want to be finished with my whole degree in three years. I hope the Marine Corps will allow me to reenlist until I can finish my degree so I can continue utilizing TA(tution assistance).

The courses I will be starting in December are College Algebra and History of Science.

I have never taken online math classes my concern is that I have always seemed to struggle with math concepts. If I do run into a problem of understanding, I plan to reach out to my Professor or classmates to help better understand what we are working on. Thankfully this is the only math class that I am required to complete for my degree plan.

I do not feel I have any pressing concerns that I need to discuss with an APU representative.

This course was very well put together, and I enjoyed learning about Technical Documents and how to better my skills in communication.

I recommend students be aware of the ten-page essay. I was not aware that this class would require that much work. But it was a learning process and greatly enjoyed learning how to add an index and utilize TOC.

Softskills are important because it helps you convey the proper information about an IT project especially to those who may not have a technical background and are a part of the decision making on how to proceed.

My current job is signal corps in the army. I found beneficial to add to my knowledge in technology so taking computer science possibly transferring over to cybersecurity will help me further understand my current position and help my career progression in the military while setting me up in the civilian side for when I transition out. Being that the holiday season is upon us I will not be starting my next set of classes right away and have been put into other courses through the military as well. Some obstacles I find myself likely have is as the new year is around the corner so are a lot of mandated field exercises where having access and time to continue classes will be extremely limited, but for every problem there is a solution. 

Overall this course was easy to follow, kept me captivated and eager to move onto the following weeks topic. My biggest recommendation for anyone taking this course would be to stay on top on due dates. Plan accordingly and set up a self imposed to routine to make sure everything is complete on time without having to stress over it.
