CREATING A WORKING OUTLINE
CREATING A WORKING OUTLINE
This discussion explores two key ideas for this week:
Preparing your sources for writing and creating a working outline
Creating an annotated bibliography
Let’s look at preparing your sources for writing and creating a working outline in this discussion post this week.
POST 1
For your BY WEDNESDAY post, read the contextual material and follow the directions below. Post by Wednesday for 2 post-by-Wednesday points and 6 points for quality and timing.
In this discussion, you will read your sources carefully, prepare a working outline of your essay, and identify specific source information you want to include in your essay.

Create a working outline of your paper.
Determine your thesis or main idea—now that you have researched and thought about your problem, what do you think we should do about it?
For each section of your essay, brainstorm 2- 3 points you want to make in each of the major sections of your essay. Your points should be expressed as full sentences. (These sentences will become the topic sentences of your paper.)
When you are ready, click on the Reply button, label your post as a BY WEDNESDAY post and attach your working outline. Sign your post when you are finished. Complete your outline as early in the week as you can, so you can work on your annotated bibliography.

This week your main writing task is to create an annotated bibliography. According to the APA Publication Manual, 7th edition, an annotated bibliography is a “type of student paper in which reference list entries are followed by short descriptions of the work called annotations” (p. 307). There are several reasons to create an annotated bibliography:
You start creating the likely reference list you will need for your essay.
You start reading your source material, which in turn helps you understand your topic more fully.
You start thinking about how the source is helpful to your project and how you can use information in the individual sources to support your ideas.
