Subject Matter: Select a current controversy, active and ongoing in 2022, that involves the life sciences in a crucial way. The life sciences, broadly understood, include (but are not limited to) biology, environmental science, human or veterinary medicine, public health, pharmacology, biochemistry, and neuroscience. Note, however, the following special conditions:
You may not choose any of the following topics:
– ethics of producing “designer babies” via gene editing;
– physician-assisted suicide;
– legalization of marijuana;
– testing of cosmetics on animals; or
– the safety or desirability of genetically-modified food (GMOs).
Part of your task in this work is to frame the issue you’ve chosen in terms of a question. You’ll need to choose a well-focused controversy to which you can respond.
Sources: In this work, you must make use of at least four text sources; all your sources must be published in English. You may not use video or audio sources unless they are accompanied by a published transcript in English. I strongly prefer sources for which a publication date can be identified; at least one of your sources should be from a major national or international news sources, published in the last 12 months. Use only highly credible sources for science news and information; assess the credibility of your sources carefully. As before, the following types of sources are not acceptable for this paper:
