Introduction: Opportunity indicates the ability to access assets that are essential for the functioning of a society and economy. Economic opportunity further suggests the ability to thrive in an economic system. The lack of economic opportunity affects the ability to secure employment. Employment offers the foundation for creating means, building networks, boosting self—esteem, and a sense of purpose and identity. In times of reduced economic growth, society and the economy suffer. Such times prevent opportunities for job creation and other associated economic opportunities. For instance, the pandemic caused a drop in consumer demand which resulted in economic recession and massive unemployment. COVE—l 9 caused significant hardship. This societal issue has several implications for individuals, families, and communities. 1iWhen those who are unemployed= may have difficulty providing for themselves and their families. This can lead to several other issues, such as crime and political instability. Additionally, unemployed individuals may suffer fi’om poor mental and physical health. This paper will discuss how unemployment and lack of economic opportunities impact the broader economy. Thesis Statement: The global societal issue of unemployment and lack of economic opportunity can be resolved by businesses investing in areas with high unemployment rates and by the government providing tax breaks or other incentives for businesses to do so. There are several ways to help reduce the unemployment rate and increase economic opportunities globally.
