De Long (1997) pp, 5-11Here is a bit of what identified from my mind map please incorporate and change as needed to for overall essayThat at 36 years old my own values, beliefs and attitudes that we have developed throughout the course of my life .My family, friends, and experiences I have contribute to my sense of self are and how I view the world. As a nurse I am required to work closely with people from all walks of life. I am often called upon to work with people who are vulnerable and may not lead a lifestyle or behave in a way that I would find acceptable for myself. Thinking about this, I can recognise times in both my personal and professional life where I have judged others by the standards of my own culture and what I personally believe to be right and wrong. For example my culture and religion have always taught me to respect and look after my body. In accordance with my personal beliefs I maintain a healthy diet, take regular exercise and do not engage in behaviours that could have serious health consequences. These things were identified on my cultural mind map as being extremely important to me. However as a nurse and a member of the community I have seen firsthand that not everybody feels the same about maintaining a healthy body. At times I find myself privately becoming angry at judgemental towards people who continually abuse their bodies with drugs and alcohol and repeatedly require hospital admission as a result. I sometimes question how deserving these patients are of care. In in examining my attitude I can see that this a negative and discriminatory way of thinking that could very well effect how I deliver nursing care to patients with drug and alcohol problems. In turn this could affect the organisational culture in which I work.
