Changing the results from the original experiment is morally wrong and unethical. Providing inaccurate numbers will misguide users who will potentially want to attempt the experiment to try to obtain the same results. The false results from the data will provide false hope to the individuals attempting the experiment because of the different data that was originally given. If anyone were to find out that the data of the research was changed, the person who conducted the research would be known to be unreliable and untrustworthy. The school he conducted the experiment could be discredited. No one would want to believe that individuals work nor would want to work with the individual. Changing the results may be illegal to do due to it being a potential publication in a major journal. “The righteous hate what is false, but the wicked make themselves a stench and bring shame on themselves” (Proverbs 13:5.) Based on Proverbs 13:5, the only person to blame for changing the data with false information is oneself. The only person who would have to live with the consequences is oneself.
It is important to display the accurate numbers of the research because someone will want to replicate the research. They will need to be able to have access to the accurate numbers so that the researcher will be able to compare data. If he changes the data, the level of significance will be affected. The level of significance is the level of probability ( Thomas, Jerry R., et al, 2022). For example, if the level of significance is .01 ( the chances will be 1 in a 100). If the data was altered to .07 ( 7 in a 100), the data would be incorrect and would cause false hope to those who are attempting the same experiment. Changing the data may cause confusion . Presenting the true data may help with his career and the school he is working for. Displaying the data may help with future opportunities.
