Your painting choices are:
“Santa Trinita Madonna” by Cimabue
“Ognissanti Madonna” by Giotto
“The Rucellai Madonna” by Duccio
Your job is to decide to purchase one painting, and then write up a proposal to the Board of the Museum. Your proposal will include your reasons for choosing the painting you did. Why that particular painting will increase the stature of the museum, how culture influenced the art, and why it is important to 14th C. Italian art.
Your submission should include:
Identify each Madonna with correct title and artist
Explain how the natural depiction of the human form returns during the 14 C in Italy. Use details from the works as examples.
Discuss the changes in culture that affects your chosen work.
Apply correct vocabulary specific to this period.
Discuss the primary purpose for your chosen work.
Discuss the changes in materials (tempera, gold leaf…etc.)
Discuss the changes in techniques
Discuss the changes in narrative (the story, its purpose) during this period.
Cite academic sources (Khan Academy, Boundless reading, Art Museum websites, Canvas Overviews)
Explain the importance of owning a work from this period.
And add something interesting that Museum visitors will remember about the work
