Based on your knowledge about various world religions, you need to create two characters from two different religious traditions. In your first two paragraphs, you will describe the background and religious convictions of the two characters you have created.
The third and final paragraph is the most important aspect of the essay. You will need to describe the model of religious dialogue that you envision taking place between the two characters that you created from two different religious traditions. You may create this final paragraph in a “screenplay” format if you prefer (giving each character a name and personal background based on your two previous paragraphs).
Here are a couple of examples to help you get start:
1. A Sikh physician with a pluralist approach to her faith has an evangelical Christian teacher at her gym who takes an exclusive approach. Describe their different convictions in paragraphs 1 and 2, and summarize their conversation in paragraph 3.
2. A progressive, Reform Jewish Rabbi who holds an inclusive approach meets with a Sufi Muslim very open to the teachings of Raimon Panikkar (see lecture 19 video below) at a conference addressing violence in their shared community. After describing each character in the first two paragraphs, write the words of the dialogue you imagine they might have.
