This is a great opportunity to practice your coaching abilities towards helping someone. It will be important that students follow the steps in order to accomplish this assignment. The coach will use the 5-D cycle to help the client/employee through a transformational process to meet their goals. Remember, THIS IS PRACTICE. Therefore, grading will be based on how the practice session is conducted. Through more and more practice you will grow in your ability to coach a co-worker/client through conflict or other issues.
This assignment is designed to help students begin to understand how to coach a co- worker/client by practicing how to walk that person through a process of personal growth. Students will work in teams (preassigned by the instructor). The “Lead” student for each group, as designated by the instructor, will be responsible for setting up the Zoom meeting. Students are encouraged to email and communicate with each other.
Two (2) separate Zoom sessions will need to be set up for this assignment. Each student will be responsible for uploading their “Coach” session into Canvas as their assignment.
Step 1 – For this Zoom session students are to review the 5-D Cycle of Appreciative Inquiry (5.2). Each person will play each role: Coach and Co-Worker/Client.
Step 2 – At the start of the video, please:
• Make sure to hit “Record”.
• Introduce each person and the role each will play in this Zoom session.
• When the student plays the role of the “Coach” that student must introduce the roles and what “goal” he or she will be helping the client/employee achieve, then proceed.
Step 3 – The process starts by securing an agreement between coach and co-worker/client as to what the co-worker/client wants to learn (topic choice) and how the client wants to learn it (method choice).
Step 4 – The Coach then will ask the co-worker/client questions as he or she works through all five levels of the 5-D cycle (define-discover-dream-design-destiny) related to his or her goal. The Coach will need to make sure he or she has read this chapter and understands how to use each step in the process to help the co-worker/client achieve the desired goal.
Step 5 – Once complete, end the recording. The recording will save automatically. Follow the instructions on Canvas to see how to submit the recording as your assignment.
Step 6 – Coach, once you have worked through the 5-D cycle and feel you have helped the co-worker/client with his or her goal, conclude by asking the co-worker/client “How can you use your faith to achieve this goal?”
Step 7 – Once the first recording is saved, start the next Zoom session and reverse roles. Repeat steps 1-6.
