Essay
Write an short essay in standard formati.e., using full sentences and paragraphs and with an introductory and concluding paragraph. In the text of your assignment address the following questions (in any order):
What kinds of geographical patterns emerge from your dataset (i.e., your table)? For example, (a) Where are the articles produced? (b) Are products that are the same brand made in the same countries? (c) Were the items sold in a brand name store, an American owned store, a Canadian store? (d) What else do you notice that has geographical implications?
Using Internet sources, journal articles and the textbook, describe the possible geography of ONE ITEM OF CLOTHING FROM YOUR TABLEfrom design, to materials, to production, to sales. That is, list where you think the clothing was designed, where you think the input materials come from, where it was manufactured (from the tag), and where it was purchased. Please find a way to represent this information graphically (a drawing, a map, etc.) as well.
Who do you think made your clothes? (I.e., age, sex, socio-economic status)?
What is the minimum wage in the country your clothing item was made? How many hours would the person who made your item have to work to afford to purchase such an item ?
Analyze your findings in terms of:
What does your closet show about the spatial organization of the clothing industry? (Concepts you could include: global assembly line, new international division of labour).
What is the one of the social or environmental issues that related to the clothing you wear? (E.g., how does the production affect distribution of incomes or climate change)?
