Getting Started Discussion Two: A Speech Review for Analysis of Speaking Habits
Before viewing the speech, watch for the content that best enables you to address these questions in complete sentences. As you write your answers, vary your sentence patterns so that you do NOT follow a SUBJECT-VERB pattern in each one. For instance, for the first question, you might say, “The speaker’s intent is to …..” That is a simple Subject-to-Verb pattern, so on the second question, you might say, “Based on what I saw, her personal experience was…..” Variety in sentence structure keeps a speech from being monotonous, so it is important to practice sentence variety early. Thanks!
Go to the Discussion Board link on the left to access the forum and post the answers to these questions:
1.What is the speaker’s overall intent in telling the story of the sailors aboard the Essex?
2.What personal experience does she use as her personal profile of the human impact of fear?
3.What estimated percentage of the time that she is in eye contact with the audience vs. eye contact with her written text?
4.What nonverbal elements (at least 2) did you notice that enhanced the speech?
5.What nonverbal element (unspoken gestures, eye movement, body language, etc.) did you find most distracting?
6.Ten days from now, what two (2) facts that you gleaned from the speech are likely to be still resonating in your thoughts?
