Use the example below as a model to build a table and populate it with definitions and details for each of the acronyms in the list below. These acronyms represent standards organizations, regulatory organizations, recent healthcare legislation and other healthcare or healthcare information acronyms. To find this information simply enter the acronym and the word healthcare or the acronym and the words healthcare information into a search engine. In addition, you may also be able to use Wikipedia.com to find definitions for some of the acronyms.
For each acronym, fill in the acronym and the website in the first column, the full name or label of the acronym in the second column, the purpose or mission of the organization, standard or regulation in the third column. The comments column can be anything including mnemonics that help you remember what the acronym means.
You will work on this throughout the course
Purpose : The healthcare technology and informatics discipline involves a huge number of acronyms. The purpose of this assignment is for you to develop a tool that will assist you in learning what these mean and to help you retrieve this information as you progress through both this academic program and in your career. Many assignments, quizzes, and discussions will have common medical acronyms throughout. My expectation is that you know them or learn them during this class so that you are better prepared to engage in conversations in the work field of healthcare information and healthcare in general. Do not create your own acronyms, these will not get you points in this class or in the work field.
How to Complete this Assignment : Use the example below as a model to build a table and populate it with definitions and details for each of the acronyms in the list below. Although this is not an exhaustive list, most of these organizations, standards or regulations will be discussed in class as the course evolves. Some, you will have to research on your own. Since this tool is designed to assist you as you progress in through the program and in your healthcare information and technology career, when you run across acronyms that are not on the list, feel free to add them to the table and populate the columns. I recommend that you list these in alpha order by their acronym. This will help with retrieval later. I also recommend that you retain this table after the class. It will likely be helpful to you as you go forward in your career in healthcare information technology.
Due: Posted in Canvas. To earn points, I expect at least 75 valid acronyms to be listed. Upload your list in a Word document using a table, or with Excel.
