The way that both Mark and Matthew view Jesus is different, Mark view Jesus as a miracle worker and Matthew view him as a teacher. Though they both essentially contain the same stories and events they are slightly different in my opinion.  From Mark 1:1 thru 8:29 there is focus on the ministry of Jesus while he is an adult a miracle worker attracting big crowds where as Matthew is the inclusion of Jesus as an infant. In Mark's gospel Jesus is silent and mocked and cries out in despair at the end. Matthew described earthquakes and the rising of the dead these are things no one else witnessed.

Both gospels of Matthew and Mark, illustrating the story of Jesus’s death told from different perspectives. However when you read over the final chapters in both gospels. Matthew paints the story of Jesus as an illustration of wonder and in awe of who Jesus was as a man putting a better spin. Mark’s portrayal is vivid and  blunt straight to the point showing how there was a misunderstanding of Jesus as a man. For example in both gospels, Jesus cries out to God right before his death, but in Matthew 27:50, Matthew writes that Jesus cries out again. In the conclusion of Mark you are left off with both Marys witnessing the Angel, leaving a since of peace in our minds. In conclusion  of Mathew we have the actual reincarnation of Jesus and showing that he had risen again and fulfilling the prophecies. 

There are several similarities and several differences between Mark’s version of Jesus dying on the cross and Matthew’s. The Matthean Jesus is a symbol of Jewish hope, culminated in Jesus’ death. To Mark, Jesus’ death was the ultimate moment of recognition by the centurion. In Mark, the death of Jesus shows the crossover from the lack of human acceptance to the final admission of who Jesus is, which is similar to the Matthean view (Imperato, 28).

The starkest contrast between Matthew and Mark is the influence Jesus death has. While in both books the curtain of the temple is torn at the time of death, symbolizing Jesus’ conflict with the Temple, and the fig tree is cursed and dies, symbolizing the destruction of Jerusalem, Matthew adds more dramatic effect with an earthquake and the opening of tombs, after which Jesus is declared the Son of God. Most likely these scenes were added to give hope to discouraged Jewish people by referring back to texts in Ezekiel (Imperato, 28-30).

What is Jesus' attitude towards the Mosaic Law as presented by Matthew (Mt. 5)? Why is this significant?

He taught people to respect the law, and not to think of Him as in conflict with it, but rather, to follow its teachings because it determined whether they would see the Kingdom of God.

Matthew 5:17-20 (NKJV)

17 "Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill."

18 "For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled."

19 "Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven."

20 "For I say to you, that unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven."

According to Jesus, respecting the Mosaic law had a bearing on whether people would see God's kingdom, because it made people follow God's commandments and to be righteous for some people, they thought that Jesus came to conflict with the Mosaic law, but in contrast, Jesus strengthened their belief and adherence to the law in order to make people seek the kingdom of God. Based on the teachings that Jesus came to fulfill and not to destroy, we understand that He came to ensure that people followed the law and that they should act in the best way in order to be delivered from sin; this was significant because it made people understand what they had to do in order to see the kingdom of God, and through this, deliverance salvation from sin were strengthened.

There are multiple similarities and differences of what happened after Jesus died in Matthew and in Mark. In Matthew, the temple was torn into two symbolizing the conflict Jesus had with the Temple. The tearing meant that God's people did not have to go through another person in order to connect with God. It was made possible by Jesus's sacrifice on the cross. In Mark, he believed Jesus was the "messiah" and the "son of God" while in Matthew Jesus was a symbol of Jewish hope. The reason for Jesus's death was a sacrifice to pay for our sins and replenish human beings in having a good relationship with God. After the death of Jesus in Mark, the Evangelist had the disciples in his house and when Jesus resurrected her came to Mark's house. To sum up, there are many similarities and differences of life after Jesus's death in Matthew and Mark.
