Purpose

Nurses play an important role with advocating for health and engaging in policymaking to improve healthcare delivery and the profession of nursing. Equipped with insights from clinical practice and competency in leadership and collaboration, nurses offer valuable contributions to the analysis, planning, implementation and evaluation of policy efforts. The purpose of this assignment is to create a video recording that conveys the impact of a selected policy issue about which you are passionate. The video recording will also present opportunities for nursing to contribute to policymaking in order to address the issue and improve health outcomes.

Note – As you prepare for this assignment, be sure to select an issue that is different from issues addressed in other course assignments.

Assignment Overview

Suppose you are a nurse leader advocating for a policy issue about which you are passionate. You have been asked to share a testimony before a legislative body (or an administrative body) to advocate for the identified issue. Be sure that your selected issue is different from issues addressed in other course assignments.

Create a 2 to 5 minute video recording of yourself addressing the legislative body for this purpose. In your recording, be sure to address the following:

Introduction

Succinct summary of the issue, its impact, and rationale for addressing this issue

Opportunities for the nursing profession to impact this issue
