In Chapter 14, Jack discovers a wasps’ nest on the roof of the hotel.  Pay close attention to how he describes the nest.  He thinks of it as a metaphor for his life.  I’d like you to think about this image.  Why does it apply to Jack’s life? This image and this idea comes up again and again in the novel.  Point to at least one other place that either references the wasp image directly or that at least refers to a phrase or idea that comes up in this chapter.  Quote at least one passage from the novel to show this.  (Try to come up with something different from the classmates who post before you.)  What does this image and this idea tell you about how Jack thinks about life?  What makes it such a great metaphor for a horror story?
