Why are the people we are attracted to resemble our parents?

– At every sleepover as a child, you always end up talking about your crush at school or celebrity crushes. As we get older we move on to talking about whats our type in someone. When it came to talking about your type in guys or girls people always focused on visual aspects. Rarely did people talk about the personality or the intelligence of their crush. From a young age, I was convinced that I didnt have a type and would always tell people I like their personalities and no one would believe me. Then as I got older I came to discover that maybe I was more attracted to athletes compared to non-athletes. But to me, that didnt seem like a real type. I still had crushes on non-athletes. After meeting new people and creating new relationships with them, I realized that no matter what, no matter their personality, and other characteristics I was attracted to men who had a babyface. 
    Due to this new discovery, I began to think back to all the people I liked and to see if it fit. And more than 50% of the men that I have had a crush on all had a babyface. For someone who believed that they dont have a type this a life-changing discovery for me. This made me wonder why I was attracted to people with babyfaces. From Social Psychology you learn about mere exposure effect, which states that the more were exposed to the stimuli, the more we grow to like it. This was true to my situation because my mom would always tell me that my dad had a babyface. My dad is a bit on the heavier side so he has chubby cheeks like a baby. My mom and I would always make remarks that hes like a baby and etc, which might have conditioned me to favor people with a babyface because I was exposed to it so much. In my observation paper, I plan on mentioning face recognition and grandmother cells from the lecture. Then I plan on observing all the celebrities that I liked and comparing them and see what they all have in common to see if it helps out my case.
