Hello class, for this week I am posting some of the most important items needed in case of an emergency. Here I have a list of some canned goods, flashlights, batteries, medications, sanitation items, an air mattress, and a copy of all my family documents inside a safe. I am currently in the process of getting a travel bag so I can place all my items inside of it, one that will also fit the air mattress as well. The area where I currently live put my family at risk of experiencing severe hurricanes and floods. We live close to a lake, so this area is more prone to flooding. During a hurricane, it is possible that the electricity goes out, or even during a flood we may not be able to stay in our area. This is why it is important to have items such as flashlights and air mattresses in case we have to seek shelter elsewhere (“Disaster preparedness: Family preparedness plan”, 2022). We do not have any pets however we do have small children and we have to ensure that we have all the necessary items we need for them and ourselves. Thankfully, I am CPR and first aid certified, and with my experience being a nurse I am prepared to assist others in my community during a disaster whenever my assistance is needed.

Good Afternoon class, for this week’s discussion post I put together my “go bag” with emergency things that I feel it is important. During an emergency where I would need to pack something in a hurry, these are items that I would first think of—toilet paper, toothbrush, toothpaste, towel, wipes, bandage, and a towel. It is crucial to provide these essentials as these items can risk your chances of having infections/ bacteria on the skin. (McGoldrick 2014). Since I will not have access to shower freely I decided to pack wipes as this is a form of somewhat cleaning yourself and not feeling sticky. I also decided to pack a towel as this can be used to dry or at night as a blanket to warm me up. This is what I feel it is important to take on an emergency.
