Abstract
Many companies offer a series of fringe benefits to their employees to help retain employment. Keeping happy and fulfilled employees is a essential to having productive and loyal employees. We will discuss how Google does for their employees.
Introduction
Many jobs can be considered stressful. How a company invests in its employees is essential for employee health and performance. As media and technological companies grown and advance many can stand out above the rest. One of the best companies that provides in developing their employees and providing emotional well being is Google. They provide many resources and value to their employees.
Google Benefits
Google presents a qualitative approach. As social media has strengthened throughout the years it has allowed Google to provide platforms in qualitative research. Activities such as posts, comments, sharing, and tags to its users is a new way of communication (2022). Google is more about people and perceptions than it is a quantitative approach. The culture they have established within their organization speaks volumes in its formula for success.
Employees at Google referred to as Googlers provides a great benefit to include health and wellbeing care (“Build for Everyone – Google Careers”, 2022). They strive to provide generous care for employees and families. They provide wellness centers and provide second opinions on all health situations and mental health support (“Build for Everyone – Google Careers”, 2022). Google includes all these types of services in their financial reporting under employee benefits (“Build for Everyone – Google Careers”, 2022). Google takes great pride in the services it provides to their Googlers. They understand how important employee opinions are and how making these employees boast about their jobs is key in word of mouth approach.
Investing in one’s workforce is essential for sustained growth. One of the hardest things to face is a constant turn over in employees. Training new hires not only takes time but it takes away from customers as those trainers are focused on the trainees. When this is a constant problem it really can be overwhelming so stay adequately staffed.
A company that is similar to Google is Microsoft Bing. Microsoft Bing is also a technical company with a similar search engine format to that of Google. Microsoft Bing is also worldwide and has several offices across the world. Microsoft has standard employee benefits to include insurance and paid leave but tends to reward its employees with fringe benefits based on performance (“U.S. Benefits at Microsoft”, 2022). This approach includes most companies, although more and more companies are understanding the benefits of providing more to employees than the industry standard.
The decision-making process within an organization that invests in its employees should come from not only its financial and accounting department but from analysts. The financial portion will allow for monies to be utilized in budgets. Analysis can provide areas of improvement in a qualitative approach. Investing in one’s employees has shown to be a great success for Google. They continue to develop and grow their company thanks to the commitment of their employees.
Conclusion
The well being of one’s employees is essential to not only employee health but the health of its company. Happy employees are productive employees that display loyalty and truly work harder. Google has demonstrated how important it is to invest in it’s companies employees as they are truly the face of Google

My group researched Netflix and paramount for our project. I was impressed with the “no rules” workplace. They trust their employees to develop a sense of responsibility and self-discipline that drives creativity. Their core philosophy is “choosing people over process” Further, they have a Net Zero + Nature commitment to achieve zero greenhouse gas emissions.
Quantitative research is the process of collecting and analyzing numerical data. (Bhandari, 2022
Qualitative research involves collecting and analyzing non-numerical data (e.g., text, video, or audio) to understand concepts, opinions, or experiences (Bhandari, 2022)
Upon researching how Netflix makes its decisions, I discovered they use a mixture of both Quantitative and Qualitative. With millions of viewers, they have a ton of data to sort through. Below is a list of data points they wanted to view.
· When you pause, rewind, or fast forward
· What day you watch content (Netflix has found people watch TV shows during the week and movies during the weekend.)
· The date you watch
· What time do you watch content
· Where you watch (zip code)
· What device do you use to watch (Do you like to use your tablet for TV shows and your Roku for movies? Do people access the Just for Kids feature more on their iPads, etc.?)
· When you pause and leave content (and if you ever come back)
· The ratings are given (about 4 million per day)
· Searches (about 3 million per day)
· Browsing and scrolling behavior
· Netflix also looks at data within movies. They take various “screenshots” to look at “in the moment” characteristics. Netflix has confirmed they know when the credits start rolling, but there’s far more to it.
One theory of how they used this data to encourage more hours within the app was the Post-play, which automatically plays the next TV show episode unless you cancel. From my personal experience, this has caused me to stay and watch another episode or two.
Another way they create recommendations is when first starting the account, they ask users to rate their interest in movie genres and any movies they’ve already seen. Additionally, within the app, they ask for the Thumbs up-thumbs down rating.
