What 1-3 ideas, concepts, or experiences does this body of work communicate?
Include at least two photographers and a minimum of 7 pieces (photographs or other art mediums). Keep in mind, you must write about each exhibitor and their work. Feel free to dream as big as you like or use emerging artists. Select a theme for your exhibition, think location, politics, what you are interested in showing and talking about side by side. This project should be used to find your interests artistically and hopefully you can use this to curate a show of your own in the future.
Make a case of how these artists and their artworks relate to a common theme/idea. In any show there is a connecting thread.
Note: There must be at least two photographic pieces in the show but it can be curated with other art forms (film, sculptures, paintings, artist books, performance, etc.) that speak to each other.
Minimum of 5 pages, double spaced, pt 12 font, Times New Roman, 1 inch margins, Chicago style with footnotes. Include images in appendix – not part of page count ?

Think about what ties the work together. This is your curatorial thesis /exhibition proposal– your big idea.
- exhibition proposal:will probably be the longest part, saying who the artists are, how many artworks, what the artworks look like/what they are/ what each one entails/is about.
- Size of the artworks, materials, year it was made.
- What 1-3 ideas, concepts, or experiences does this body of work communicate? e.g. . The artists explore their dreams, memories, image, behavior and roles by examining animal behavior, roles, and symbolism. But then go in more depth and say how/why
- How are the different artworks speaking to each other/relate through the theme.
- What inspirations or traditions guided or influenced this body of work?
- How are the methods or techniques used important to the body of work?
Images to Include
Finally, include images of the art in the end of the proposal. It doesn’t count towards the page count.
For a small show, include all of the works you plan on showing. For a larger show, you can use a sample of up to 20 images as long as the images are representative of the entire exhibition.
