In a study done by the American Gastroenterological Association, it was found that the use of care coordination and case management drastically increase the quality of life for the patients. The disease that targeted this trial Is cyclic vomiting syndrome which is triggered by stress and also is associated with significant psychosocial comorbidity (Hahn et al., 2018). The current treatment plan for this illness is disease-centered and do not target psychosocial factors and triggers, which are important components to this disease (Hahn et al., 2018). The study took on the hypothesis that a patient-centered model of care, which would integrate meditation and meeting psychosocial needs with a care coordinator involved would improve the overall health of the patients. Patients who participated in this study showed a significant improvement at six months, in areas such as stress, active coping, reduction of self-blame, and acceptance (Hahn et al., 2018). By utilizing a case manager and coordinator of care a person is able to gain information, minimize pain, and use other methods to cope with their disease and even manage symptoms to gain a better quality of life.

This study shows that by utilizing the coordination of care and a case manager, the quality of life increases, and a person is able to find other methods to coping, as well as mindful techniques to managing the pain they may be feeling and decreases the symptoms they encounter.
