Mid-Term Assignment- Annotated Bibliography
Assignment:MLA
The mid-term assignment is to produce an Annotated Bibliography citing four (4) different sources that have commented on, analyzed, assessed, evaluated and/or reconsidered the 2008 Financial Crisis. These can come from a multitude of different information points including but not limited to: newspapers, editorials, magazines, academic journals, books, blogs, news shows, videos, documentaries, movies, etc. The materials chosen can be projections and criques from before the start of the crisis, analysis and evaluations contemporaneous with the crisis, or post-crisis reviews and lookbacks. The only limitation is that they are sources that have not already been directly cited or used in this course.
The assignment should be no more than two (2) single spaced, 12-point font pages and somewhere between 500-800 words in length.
Assignment Description:
An annotated bibliography is a list of cited sources about a particular topic, in which each citation is followed by a brief annotation, or discussion of the source. The annotation will consist of one to two paragraphs that give the reader a better understanding of the research materials under consideration. An annotated bibliography is useful for documenting your research in a specific area, exploring varying viewpoints, and summarizing main points from different sources.
Assignment Details:
Each of your annotated bibliography entries will have two parts: the citation and the annotation. MLA
The Citation: All citations will be done in MLA format. Citations are organized alphabetically.
Sample Journal Citation in MLA format:
Gilbert, Pam. “From Voice to Text: Reconsidering Writing and Reading in the English Classroom.” English Education 23.4 (1991): 195-211.
The Annotation- The annotation is a brief paragraph following the citation that for the purpose of this assignment will do the following:
Summarize- condense the content of the source and the key information provided
Evaluate the source’s credibility- analyze for authority, accuracy, currency, objectivity)
Assess the source’s relevance- determine if the information adds to the subject’s discussion
Analyze the intended audience- education, age, experience, needs, bias
Each annotation should be no more than two paragraphs long and address all of the aforementioned assessment points

Anonymous. “Special Report- International Banking: Twilight of the Gods.” The Economist, The Economist Newspaper, 11 May 2013: SS3-SS5., https://www.economist.com/special-report/2013/05/11/twilight-of-the-gods.
This article evaluates the lingering effects of the 2008 Financial Crisis and the subsequent changes to the regulatory landscape that were imposed on the global investment banking industry. The article first reviews the rapid growth in both size and profitability of the banking sector up until the crisis and then finds that the efforts to restrain some of the more excessive impulses of the industry have had a sizable impact on returns and future growth. It concludes by identifying possible future winners and losers in the investment banking sector and how this will likely play out for the growth prospects for the rest of the global economy. The source cited, The Economist is one of if not THE preeminent information source for global economic news and analysis read by nearly all major players across the global financial markets, thereby giving this article significant clout and relevance to the issue under consideration- the investment banking community- and the larger concern about the continuing hangover from the 2008 financial crisis. Moreover, because the health and growth prospects of international capital directly impact the overall functioning of the world’s economies, this article adds to our understanding of the primary issue of concern for this course.

MID-TERM ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY ASSIGNMENT GRADING CRITERIA
Your annotations should demonstrate sound, basic knowledge of key concepts studied in the course and descriptions of events, decisions, institutions and practices should be accurate.
Your analysis of the sources’ relevance, credibility and intended audience should demonstrate your ability to identify and describe key institutions, decisions, and events as well as to provide some account of the primary causes of the crisis or its most impactful outcomes.
For example, if you choose an article about the rating agencies, your analysis should address questions like these: What were these agencies? What did they do? How did their policies, decisions and actions (or lack thereof) help cause the crisis?
Or, if you select an article on the housing bubble, your analysis should address questions like these: What happened during the housing bubble? How did the practices help cause the crisis? What were some of the key cause-effect relationships connecting these practices during the housing bubble to the meltdown of the financial system as a whole? How did this crisis impact the housing market over the long run?
