New Perspectives PowerPoint 2016 | Module 1: SAM Project 1a
New Perspectives PowerPoint 2016 | Module 1: SAM Project 1a
Copper Harbor Land Trust
FORMATTING A POWERPOINT PRESENTATION
GETTING STARTED
Open the file NP_PPT16_1a_FirstLastName_1.pptx, available for download from the SAM website.
Save the file as NP_PPT16_1a_FirstLastName_2.pptx by changing the “1” to a “2”.
0. If you do not see the .pptx file extension in the Save As dialog box, do not type it. The program will add the file extension for you automatically.
To complete this Project, you will also need to download and save the following support files from the SAM website:
0. Support_NP_PPT16_1a_Harbor.jpg
0. Support_NP_PPT16_1a_Stream.jpg
With the file NP_PPT16_1a_FirstLastName_2.pptx still open, ensure that your first and last name is displayed in the presenter notes on Slide 1.
· If the presenter notes do not display your name, delete the file and download a new copy from the SAM website.
PROJECT STEPS
With Slide 1 (“Copper Harbor Land Trust”) still displaying, type Preserving natural resources as the subtitle.
Add a new Slide 2 using the Title and Content layout. Type Welcome to Copper Harbor as the slide title.
On Slide 2 (“Welcome to Copper Harbor”), in the content placeholder, insert the picture from the file Support_NP_PPT16_1a_Harbor.jpg, available for download from the SAM website, to illustrate the harbor.
On Slide 3 (“Copper Harbor Watershed”), without using a content placeholder, insert the picture from the file Support_NP_PPT16_1a_Stream.jpg, available for download from the SAM website, to illustrate the watershed.
With Slide 3 still displaying, format the picture you just inserted as follows:
a. Resize the picture to a height of 6.0".
b. Crop the picture to an Oval shape from the Basic Shapes section of the Crop to Shape gallery.
c. Position the picture as shown in Figure 1 below, using a Smart Guide to align the left edge of the picture with the left edge of the title.
Figure 1: Position of the Stream Picture
On Slide 4 (“What We Protect”), add a bulleted list as follows:
d. Change the layout to Two Content to balance the slide design.
e. In the new content placeholder on the right, type the following text as a bulleted list:
Waterways
Forests
Historic sites
On Slide 5 (“Conservation Areas”), format the text “Land stewardship” as follows:
f. Change the font to Trebuchet MS (Headings).
g. Change the font size to 28 pt.
h. Change the font color to Teal, Accent 3 (7th column, 1st row in the Theme Colors palette).
i. Bold the text.
With Slide 5 still displaying, use the Format Painter to copy the formatting from the text “Land stewardship” to the text “Water preservation”.
Delete Slide 6 (“Why We Protect Copper Harbor”) because the same information appears on other slides.
Return to Slide 5 (“Conservation Areas”), copy the text “Land”, and then paste it in the text placeholder on Slide 6 (“How We Protect”) to provide the missing heading.
On Slide 7 (“Where We Protect”), create a SmartArt graphic as follows:
j. Convert the bulleted list to a SmartArt graphic using the List layout Vertical Bullet List shown in Figure 2 below.
k. In the second shape, change the text “White Lake” to Lily Lake. (Hint: Do not type the period.)
Figure 2: Vertical Bullet List Layout
On Slide 8 (“Connect with Others”), edit the slide as follows:
l. Delete the content placeholder on the right.
m. In the content placeholder on the left, enter the following multi-level bulleted list:
Volunteer
Outreach
Events
Annual meeting
Family picnic
Move Slide 9 (“Contact the Copper Harbor Land Trust”) so it becomes Slide 10, the last slide in the presentation.
On the new Slide 9 (“Ways to Give”), edit the slide as follows:
n. Format the bulleted list as a numbered list.
o. Type Become a supporter as the fourth numbered item.
p. Type the following text in the Notes pane:
We depend on your contributions.
On Slide 10 (“Contact the Copper Harbor Land Trust”), remove the hyperlink from the email address.
Check the Spelling in the presentation to identify and correct any spelling errors. (Hint: You should find and correct at least one spelling error. Ignore proper nouns.)
In Slide Sorter view, your presentation should look like the Final Figure below. Save your changes, close the presentation, and then exit PowerPoint. Follow the directions on the SAM website to submit your completed project.
