Personal Philosophy Paper #4
For a possible 100 points, write a double-spaced, 3 page (not counting the cover page and references page) research/opinion paper answering the following questions. Use APA format for your citations (more information on how to do that is found here: https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/apa_style/apa_formatting_and_style_guide/general_format.html). This paper is part of the formation process of your own personal philosophy, so it’s an opportunity to do a little research on topics you may or may not be familiar with, and then to form an opinion about that topic, using research as the foundation of your opinion. For some topics, your textbook will give enough information to help you form an opinion. For other topics, you may need to do a little more research. A great place to start is by entering a few key terms into google.com/scholar
You will not need to include an abstract, but you will need to create a cover page and a reference page, where you will need to list every source that you cite. Quote at least 2 academic resources in addition to your textbook. Use section headings to separate your explanation of each topic numbered below. 1.Nevada has legalized sex trade work. What do you imagine would happen here in California if such legislation was proposed and voted into effect? Support your position.
2.Many individuals who have low sexual desire do not have a sexual disorder. Imagine that you are having a confidential conversation (perhaps you are a therapist in this scenario, or perhaps you are a friend, or maybe you are a guidance counselor, or a doctor) with someone who expresses that they have low desire and their partner has a high desire level, and they fear that there is “something wrong” with them. What are some common reasons for low desire? What are some unhelpful ways that the couple may respond to low desire that actually increase their frustration? And how might you counsel the person?
3.The history of research and treatment of Syphilis in the United States represents one of the most horrifically “ethically unjustified” racial abuses in research (here’s a starting place to learn more about it – https://www.cdc.gov/tuskegee/timeline.htm (Links to an external site.)). What responsibilities do you think the U.S. government has to reduce the incidence and occurrence of STDs/STIs now? What responsibilities do you feel that local government has?
4.Discuss the twofold basis of most obscenity laws. What changes do you think should be made to the current legal structure in order to create safe communities?
