Gender-based violence is defined as the verbal, sexual, physical, or psychological abuse committed against another human being based on their gender. In Mexico, violence against both women and members of the LGBTQ+ is increasing. In specific, Transgenders in Mexico are constantly abused and killed by their former partners.
2. Background/Introduction that would highlight today's human rights status in that region/country. (One to two sentences)
Human rights movements have helped change the life status of both women and members of the LGBTQ+ all around the world. It has given women the opportunity to be part of a world full of possibilities, where they can become more than mother or a wife. Additionally, it promoted equality and rights to the LGBTQ+. Despite this, things like discrimination and violence against its members are still present in many cultures. In the case of Mexico, the rate of deaths from the LGBTQ+ keeps increasing, having 459 registered deaths the past five years (Linares, 2021).
3. Two to three main themes/critical junctures inside the research paper body. (One to two sentences for each theme)
The following paragraphs of this analysis will talk about how the Mexican legal system prejudice the living conditions for transgender women. Also, what are the reforms that are trying to improve it. In addition, what are the societal factors that leads to the increasing violence against transgender women. Many transgenders come from a household where they have been rejected and abused by the hands of family members.
4. Reflection, Synthesis & Conclusion (One to two sentences)
A system led by sexist rules and values based on Machismo have become part of the Mexican culture, influencing the gender roles and expectancies. In the case of women by not fulfilling the perfect role of being a submissive wife, they could face a fate of violence. For the same reasons, transgenders lack protection against hate crimes from the law enforcements and governmental institutions. Some of these hate crimes consist of police harassment, sexual assault, and murder. It is therefore critical that the government should intervene to find solutions that could decrease violence against members of the LGBTQ+.
