Now that you have proposed your own study, you’ve thought through the issues related to ethics, design, measurement, etc., your final lab assignment will be to write up a critique or review of a study that’s published in a peer-reviewed journal. Here are your instructions:

1. Using PsychInfo or a similar academic search engine, find a journal article (must be from a peer-reviewed journal) that reports on an empirical study (i.e., it’s a study rather than just a meta-analysis or review) in an area that you find interesting in the social sciences. Send the article to me for approval ([email protected]).
2. Once you have approval to review the study of your choosing, read through the paper and identify what they did well and what they could have improved on for each major section of the paper (e.g., introduction/literature review, method, results, discussion). Pay particular attention to whether or not the conclusions the authors draw from their study are appropriate given their research design and measurements.
3. Write up your review using APA style. This will include a cover page and the following sections: Summary of the Article, Review of the Introduction, Review of the Method, Review of the Results, Review of the Discussion, Overall Impressions, References.
4. Feel free to turn in a draft of your paper for feedback before it is due – give your instructor at least a few days to review it before the due date.
