Assignment 3e: Week Three Journal
Objective: Develop the skills of self-reflection.
Instructions
With this journal entry, you will describe your spiritual journey. Find a quiet place–inside or outside–silence your cell phone and begin with prayer by thanking God for this time of solitude for self-reflection. Read Joshua 4:1-7 at least twice and focus on any key words or phrases.
In a journal entry of about 1-2 pages, record your answers to the following questions:
What obstacles have you crossed to get to where you are now in your life and ministry?
What types of “stones” have you collected during your spiritual journey?
What meaning do these “stones” represent in your life and ministry?
Where do you see God at work in your life and ministry “on the other side” of the river?
As a future chaplain, how do you plan to care for yourself physically, emotionally, spiritually, and relationally to avoid burnout or compassion fatigue?
For further reflection, read and meditate on the following scriptures: Deut. 2:7; Ps. 27; Prov. 3:5-6; Luke 5:15-16; Gal. 6:9-10; Eph. 2:10; Phil. 3:12-14
