We at TED Talks would like to extend an opportunity to you regarding our next conference.  The theme is college education, a field we know you’ve delved into.  We have heard about the passion you share for your topic, and we would like to offer you an opportunity to speak about it during our next convention.  Our speakers are driven, motivated individuals who use their time and passion to convince our audiences of the necessity of their subject or of actions they must take in order to create a better future.  This is the opportunity we would like to present to you.

To speak at our TED Talks convention, we would like you to undergo an application process.  While being passionate is a necessary quality that we seek in all our speakers, our speakers must also balance their enthusiasm and knowledge with respect for and patience with all perspectives, including those they disagree with as some audience members will certainly disagree yet still need to be respected.  Therefore, our panel of professional and academic interviewers would like you to research your topic and use three credible, professional, and reliable sources to objectively showcase different perspectives that exist regarding your topic in an application essay.

Your essay should be largely informational in nature, and you should be able to withhold your opinion in order to present the facts and perspectives you find.  You will be presenting two to three different and perhaps conflicting perspectives in this essay.  Because this process is meant to demonstrate your professionalism as well as your objectivity, the panel is quite rigid with their standards, and they will dismiss your application if it cannot abide by the panel’s rules.  Here are the standards of the board:

• Use either MLA or APA format, observing font type, font size, margin size, headers, and correct citation conventions
• Be between 1,500 to 2,000 words in length
  • The panel asks that applicants use a Works Cited or References page, though this documentation will not be included in the total word count.
  • The panel grants that an APA formatted essay may use a title page, though this documentation will not be included in the total word count.
• Use ONLY credible sources
• Synthesize different perspectives and points of view regarding your topic of choice
