Pop Up Discussion- Pelvic Exams
The Special Projects Assignments (SPAs) and the Pop Up Assignments (PUAs) are analyses of the theories that you are learning throughout the semester. They are also in-depth responses to various videos, TED Talks, newspaper and magazine articles, and other forms of media about historical and current events that critically relate to sociology and critically relate to the ideas we will be learning about.
- 3-5 pages long for the Special Projects Assignments and Pop Up Assignments
- The works cited page is not included in the page count
Each written assignment must include:
- A summary of any chapter/article/video (35 words or more with a separate word count)
- Answers to any and all questions embedded in the Special Projects Assignments and Pop Up Assignments (35 words or more with a separate word count)
- Three or more quotations with in-text citations from three or more separate sources
- Citations must appear in the Works Cited Page
- A discussion/analysis of the chapter/article/video showing me that you (35 words or more with a separate word count)
- Care about what you are supposed to be learning
- Are using outside sources
- Are analyzing deeply what you read and/or watched
- Are relating your analysis to the topics in the chapter/article/video
- A discussion of “what I learned” (35 words or more with a separate word count)
- A discussion of “how to apply what I learned (35 words or more with a separate word count)
- A discussion of a perspective and how it fits the topic in the chapter/article/video (35 words or more with a separate word count)
- The perspectives include:
- Conflict(which includes Marxist Theory, Feminist Theory, Queer Theory)
- Structural-Functionalism
- Symbolic Interactionism
- Mid-Range Theory
- Postmodernism
- The perspectives include:
- You must have a separate word count for each portion of the assignment
- You must have a works cited page with three or more separate sources that is not part of the page count or word count
- Doing only the minimum will earn you a grade of 70% or less, I expect more from you!

- Leaving out any of the elements listed in this document will receive a reduction of 10-points or more
- Lack of deep analysis will receive a reduction of 10-points or more
- Lack of substance will receive a reduction of 10-points or more
- Poor writing or poor formatting will receive a reduction of 10-points or more
- Lack of word count will receive a reduction of 10-points or more
- Lack of three or more short quotations with in-text citations will receive a reduction of 10-points or more
- Lack of Works Cited Page will receive a reduction of 10-points or more

- If necessary, and if I ask you to rewrite and resubmit any assignment, I will adjust your grade once you have submitted a correct assignment
- If you are asked more than once to rewrite and resubmit the same assignment, I will take deductions for lateness and for not following the rules
