Please speak to your interest in becoming a nurse. (300 words maximum)

My passion for nursing is rooted from many different aspects of my life-long learnings.

 The personal connections that I have made with patients and their loved ones have inspired me to obtain a role in which I can be more involved in their medical experiences. The personal connections that I have made with individuals while working in healthcare have been rewarding because it has created meaningful connections. Having meaningful connections with patients is crucial because it promotes trust, improves the overall outcome of their visit, and it makes patients feel safe when they are in medical care. While being at Stanford Healthcare and working for Spring Fertility, I have established caring, empathetic, patient centered relationships due to the personal connections I have made. My healthcare background comes from different areas of  observing nursing that have inspired me . While working at Stanford Healthcare and Spring Fertility, I have witnessed nursing in  emergency, adults, pediatrics, psychiatric, and female and male fertility. I was able to gain many great experiences working with different nurses from each of those departments. While being a Customer Access Assistant I was able to see various different types of conditions and diseases in both adults and Pediatrics, as well fertility. This has inspired me because it has sparked interest in learning more about these conditions and wanting to contribute to my community and help.What these patients go through has allowed me to want to make an impact on their bad situation and turn into a good one. Turning their experiences to good ones can simply just be able to assist them and be there for them in a caring and loving way. Encountering patients with good and bad situations has given me great set skills of being a nurse because I have gained skills in making connections, gained leadership, networking, teamwork, and been able to gain trust from loved ones and the patient. A time I have recalled was when I was working at Stanford Healthcare. I had encountered a patient who called in screaming for help. During the call I used my set of skills of remaining calm and provided everything that I could to better assist them. Being bilingual in Punjabi helped me overcome this call because I was able to help the patient stay calm during their challenging time and connect over the phone with them in Punjabi. The patient was extremely thankful because I got them immediate assistance, as well as comforted them over the phone while I got a nurse for them on the line. While shadowing the nurse taking the call and checking the patient’s chart I have experienced the set of skills she gave the patient. She was able to provide the patient with personal connections, stamina, and commitment to patient advocacy. Observing all the traits that the nurse had, I envisioned myself wanting to be a nurse because I realized one small act can change a patient’s life and those set of qualities that the nurse had I knew that I had them within myself as well. Another reason why I want to pursue a career in nursing is because growing up I have been inspired by the women in my life. I come from a family where the women in my household are nurses. Seeing my mother and my aunt put in the dedication and hard work into nursing has inspired me because I realized nursing is a career where you make a change everyday. Whether that be from simply giving patients medications, to being by their bedside supporting them and their loved ones. This to me, has been a promising and rewarding career to pursue because they have inspired me that nurses are given the privilege and delicate responsibility of caring for the injured, sick and dying. I believe that it would give me an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others by giving care to others in their time of need, just as I would want someone to do for me if it were myself in their place. The qualities I have to pursue nursing are very rewarding because I know that those qualities that I have I will be able to be involved in someone’s life in the most meaningful and precious moments.
