Introduction
This research paper is an analysis the artwork by Andy Warhol, Marilyn Monroe, 1967 (3.18) Screen Print. 91 cm x 91 cm (36 in x 36 in). that is an example of appropriation, and guided by an argument. The term refer to different processes. Loosely defined, are:
“Appropriation” is the process of taking a well-known image/artwork holistically and using it in a new way as part of a new form. The original meaning/associations still exist and are, in fact, lending the new form its meaning. Consider formatting your outline this way:
Paragraph 1: Introduction with clear, debatable, and specific thesis statement.
Paragraphs 2-3: Description of your subject. Describe the features most relevant to your thesis statement. Include discussion of physical attributes (materials, dimensions, process), content (iconography, subject matter), and formal analysis (use of visual elements).
Paragraphs 3-4: Discussion of the current state of scholarship about the subject. This is where your annotated bibliography will come in handy.
Paragraph 5: A clear methodology. what is your approach to the analysis of the artwork(s)? Possible methodologies: Formal analysis, Iconography, Contextual analysis, Social History (Ideological, Gender, Race, Politics).
Paragraphs 6-9: Evidence to support your thesis statement. Each paragraph has one central idea/claim that it develops with this evidence.
Paragraph 10: Conclusion. What further research should be done? What broader issues do your findings connect to?
