For your initial post, imagine that you are a school nurse tasked with educating middle school/high school students about STIs and STDs. Create a pamphlet or educational handout/flyer that can be provided to students and/or parents educating them about an STI or STD, how the disease is transmitted, how the disease is detected or tested for, signs and symptoms of the disease, and finally, the treatment options available.
If available, include statistical information about infection rates for this disease for your state.
For your reply post, provide feedback on the flyer/handout created by at least one of your peers.

STD’s; What are they?
An STD/STI is a sexually transmitted disease/infection. These types of diseases are spread via sexual contact from one person to another. Sexual contact includes vaginal, anal, and oral sex, but can also include skin to skin contact.
Signs and Symptoms:
-Fever
-Frequent or painful urination
-Itching in the genital or anal region
-Sores in or around the mouth or genital region
-Abnormal vaginal odor
-Abnormal genital discharge
-Pain in abdomen
–It is possible to have no symptoms, but still have an STD.
What to do if you suspect you have an STD:
If you have any of the symptoms listed, or fear you may have contracted and STD, the first step is to contact your health care provider. In order to be diagnosed, your provider will do a physical examination, as well as take samples of fluid from sores, swabs of the genitalia or anus, or a blood test.
Treatment Options:
Bacterial infections can be treated and cured with antibiotics. Viral STDs cannot be cured, however there are options to manage symptoms and lower the risk of spreading infection.
Prevention:
The only way to stay 100% safe from an STD is to remain abstinent and avoid sexual contact of any kind. However, the use of condoms will reduce the risk or contracting or spreading infection, and there are vaccines available to prevent some STDs.
The best way to stay safe is to be educated!
