Writing the PICOT Question
The purpose of this assignment is for you to demonstrate your understanding of how to write a PICOT question based on a clinical scenario. Since there are several types of PICOT questions, first determining what you want to know will help you decide on the specific PICOT format. Providing rationales for choosing specific words versus other options as well as how the wording will sufficiently focus your search for evidence will help you write a searchable question.
Tasks:
For this week’s assignment, you will be assigned a different scenario than the one provided for your discussion question. In a 2- to 3-page paper formatted in APA style, respond to the following:
- Click to review the scenario and determine what type of question the scenario suggests: intervention, etiology, diagnosis, prognosis or prediction, or meaning.
- Generate a PICOT question, including a rationale for each part. This will include:
- Explaining why the words you chose are the best to drive the literature search
- Listing other words you considered but rejected and why this was done
Submission Details:
- On a separate page, cite all sources using APA format.
- Name your paper SU_NSG7020_W2_A2_LastName_FirstInitial.doc.
- Submit your paper to the Submissions Area by the due date assigned.
